Ocular Surface Lavage

Ocular Surface Lavage

An ocular surface lavage is used to thoroughly rinse the surface of the eye. Patients with dry eye and ocular surface disease often have elevated levels of debris and proinflammatory material on the surface of their eyes and tears. This material and debris can collect underneath the upper and lower eyelid in an area called the fornix. This area can be difficult to reach using traditional hygiene methods; however, a specialized device called Rinsada allows for a thorough rinsing of the fornix and entire ocular surface. This rinse is like a “power-wash” for the surface of the eye, flushing away debris and proinflammatory material, providing a quick “reset” of the tears and ocular surface.
