WELCOME

The Dry Eye Center of Ohio is dedicated to providing patient-centric dry eye and ocular surface disease care. It is our desire to be a place of hope for those who have long struggled with dry eye disease. We recognize the dry eye treatment journey is a partnership between both doctor and patient, and this partnership is central to our treatment philosophy. We understand that every patient’s experience is unique and, accordingly, each treatment plan will be uniquely tailored to a patient’s individual needs.

What is Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Disease?

Dry eye is much more than a minor nuisance or annoyance – it is a multifactorial disease that can have a major impact on the lives of those affected, making it difficult to work or enjoy the things we love, or even function in our day-to-day lives. Dry eye disease is complex, with countless other eye conditions contributing to the disease. Collectively, dry eye and these other disorders are referred to as ocular surface disease. It is crucial to identify and treat each individual disorder that is contributing to a patient’s dry eye to completely manage their condition.

ADVANCED PROCEDURES & TREATMENTS

INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY (IPL)

OptiLIGHT intense pulsed light (IPL) technology involves delivering energy in the form of light to the region around the eyes. The delivery of this light energy has several therapeutic effects as it improves dry eye disease by addressing meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), reducing inflammation, improving ocular rosacea, reducing the microbial burden around the eyes, and increasing collagen production. Backed by over 70 clinical studies, OptiLIGHT IPL has become a cornerstone in the management of dry eye, as the disease is a multifactorial condition that often has several different contributing factors. This makes IPL an excellent treatment option for many patients as it addresses several of these underlying factors at once.

DYNAMIC MUSCLE STIMULATION

OptiLIFT dynamic Muscle Stimulation (DMSt) is a cutting-edge technology that delivers a small electrical current to the muscles of the eyelids that control blinking. This stimulation can strengthen the muscles, which can weaken from poor blinking behavior due to increased screen time and natural aging changes. Proper blinking is vital to producing new tears and protecting the eye’s surface, making DMSt a powerful therapeutic option for many patients suffering from dry eye and ocular surface disease, as this treatment can improve both blink quality as well as eyelid position and tone by reducing lid laxity or “sagging.”

RADIOFREQUENCY

OptiPLUS radiofrequency (RF) technology involves delivering heat to the region around the eyes. The eyelids contain oil glands that are referred to as meibomian glands; however, this oil can harden and clog the glands in a condition known as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). The heat produced by RF can specifically target and melt this hardened oil, which in turn improves tear film stability and function. Additionally, RF significantly enhances collagen production, which can improve the tonicity and appearance of the skin around the eyes.

MEET Dr. Cory Lappin

Dr. Lappin is an Ohio native and graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, where he concurrently earned his Doctor of Optometry degree and Master of Science degree in Vision Science and served as Class President. After graduation, he completed a residency in Ocular Disease at the renowned Cincinnati Eye Institute. Dr. Lappin’s passion for treating dry eye and ocular surface disease began as a student, carried through his residency and early years in practice, and has since become the central focus of his career. Following this passion, he founded The Dry Eye Center of Ohio, a clinic entirely dedicated to the management of dry eye and ocular surface disease.
